National ID Process
Ugandan Citizens living abroad can now apply for National IDs, Renewal and Replacement of lost and damaged IDs
Requirements New ID Application
- Covering letter from the Embassy (Recommendation Letter)
- Recommendation Letter from at least one parent ( addressed to the Executive Director NIRA)
- Copies of IDs of Parents (if available, this increases your chances of approval)
- A letter from the guardian if parents are missing (must be at least 8 years and above)
- Copy of Ugandan Passport or birth certificate

- Covering letter from the Embassy (Recommendation Letter)
- Recommendation Letter from at least one parent ( addressed to the Executive Director NIRA)
- Old National ID
- Copy of Ugandan Passport or birth certificate
Fees: UGX 50,000/= payable in Ugandan Bank
Requirements Renewal of National ID Application
- Covering letter from the Embassy (Recommendation Letter)
- Police Report
- Old National ID (if available)
- Copy of Receipt (Payment of 50,000 in Ugandan bank Bank)
Fees: UGX 50,000/= payable in Ugandan Bank
Steps for Application
- Step 1: Fill in an appropriate form
- Step 2: Provide the form to an authorized official.
- Step 3: attach documents required
The Embassy will contact you when your National ID arrives from NIRA.
