World Scholars cup The Hague 20-27th July 2019
Amb Blaak with the senior students from King's College, Budo and Aga Khan High School in Uganda. Total of 19 students were present from Uganda who qualified to participate in the World Scholars Cup held in The Hague with 2000 students from all over the world from 20-27 July 2019.
Ambassador Blaak addressed the Forum and wished them well in this Global Round because they can still win a place at the Yale Forum in November 2019. This was the first time since its establishment in 2007 that a Ugandan team was participating which is a great achievement and a very valuable academic and social experience for our Ugandan Scholars.
MEETING THE MAYOR OF DEVENTER AND 19 NGOs WORKING IN UGANDA
The Deventer Mayor , Mr. Ron Konig invited the Head of Mission, who was accompanied by the Consular Officer to meet nineteen (19) operational organisations inUganda.
During the Ambassadors remarks, she thanked the Mayor for his invitation and she commended the organisations for their outreach programs mainly in Bukomansimbi District. One most impressive organisation is Deventer Koffie which was an initiative from the Netherlands Rabobankin 2017 where they support Kibinge coffee farmers and export coffee to Deventer, a joint venture that is directly impacting on house hold incomes and its related economies of scale. The longest standing organisation; KvU, Kinderenvanuganda/Children of Uganda has been operating for more than 20 years in supporting local communities to provide a better life for children in Uganda.
AMB. GRACE ASIRWATHAM PAID A COURTESSY VISIT TO AMB. MIRJAM BLAAK AT UGANDA EMBASSY BRUSSELS
On Monday15th July 2019 Ambassador designate of Sri Lanka HE Grace Asirwatham paida courtesy call on Amb Mirjam Blaak at the offices of the Uganda Embassy inBrussels to establish a renewed professional and personal relationship as theyhave known each other for many years in a different capacity; first when Amb.Asirwatham served as Ambassador to the Netherlands and later when she becamethe deputy Director General of the OPCW in The Hague.
Whenreturning to Sri Lanka she was appointed as Secretary of State in the Ministryof Foreign Affairs before taking up her present posting as Ambassador Belgiumand the EU.
Bothambassadors shared experiences and are looking forward to a close workingrelationship in Brussels.
