MEETING WITH MS. CRISTINA MIRANDA GOZALVEZ, DG TRADE

H.E. Amb. Mirjam Blaak Sow, Head of Mission Uganda Embassy Brussels held a meeting with Ms. Cristina Miranda Gozalvez; Head of Unit C1; African, Caribbean and Pacific, Overseas Countries and Territories on 26 July 2022 on the EU-EAC Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) at the Chancery building of the Uganda Embassy Brussels.

The Uganda Embassy Brussels in collaboration with the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA), ZOTO Cocoa consultancy firm and Silva Cacao hosted a cocoa and chocolate event at the Chancery building of the Uganda Embassy Brussels on 27 June 2022 to promote Ugandan cocoa and chocolate in Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg (BENELUX region).

The Uganda Embassy Brussels in collaboration with Ondernemers voor Ondernemers-OVO (Entrepreneurs for Entrepreneurs) hosted the inaugural OVO Ugandan Diaspora & Investors Event on 23 June 2022 at the Official Residence. The organization supports Small and Medium Enterprises in Uganda by unlocking capital for organizations, coaching, training and providing valuable networks.

MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AT 6TH EU-AU SUMMIT, BRUSSELS

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar participated in the 6th EU-AU Summit in Brussels on 17 and 18 February 2022. The Summit was held with the objective of building a new partnership between Africa and Europe taking into account global challenges such as peace and security, climate change as well as the current health crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Matters discussed include: Peace, Security and Governance; Financing for sustainable and inclusive growth; Agriculture and sustainable development; Climate change and energy transition, digital and transport(connectivity and infrastructure), Private sector support and economic integration; Education, culture and vocational training, migration and mobility;and Health systems and vaccine production.

MEETING WITH FOUNDATION RURAL ENERGY SERVICES (FRES)

The Embassy held a meeting with Foundation Rural Energy Services (FRES) in Amsterdam on 08 November 2021. The company provides affordable solar power solutions to homesteads, businesses, institutions and refugee settlements in 26 districts in Southwest Uganda. The company also provides solutions for solar water pumping and plans to extend its services to the Northern part of the country. 

59TH INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS

The Uganda Embassy Brussels in collaboration with the Ugandans in Belgium (UGABEL) organized the 59th Uganda Independence Day Celebrations on 09 October 2021 in Antwerp. The event was attended by the Ugandans in Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg and Denmark. 

MEETING WITH BRIDGIN FOUNDATION

The BRIDGIN Foundation Officials attended a video conference with Officials in Kampala to review final conditions of their investments envisaged in Uganda on 08 October 2021 at the Uganda Embassy Brussels. The investments include: the construction of a series of High-Tech Skill Development Centres; among which 3D-printing facilities, an agro-processing techno park and a teaching hospital, as well as infrastructure for the generation (and transport) of 400 MW of electricity in the country.

These projects will generate an enormous boost to Uganda's economy. They will secure skills development on advanced technologies in the medical and agricultural sectors, increase output capacity and quality of the Ugandan universities, and attract more business in the country, creating employment and opportunities for youth. The delegation is expected to travel to Uganda at the end of the month to officially sign all agreements with representatives of the Government.

OVO (ONDERNEMERS VOOR ONDERNEMERS/ENTREPRENEURS FOR ENTREPRENEURS) NETWORK MEETING

The Uganda Embassy Brussels held a meeting with OVO (Ondernemers Voor Ondernemers/Entrepreneurs for Entrepreneurs) President, Luc Bonte and Brian Mangeni, Manager of OVO Kampala Office. Achievements of the Engagements with OVO include: 1. Launching Sustech4Uganda program in November 2020 with 17 Uganda SMEs, Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) 2. Launch of Kampala Impact Day on 30 March 2021. 3. Funding and training-10 SMEs have received loans (5% interest rate per annum). 17 are still being streamlined.

RESUMPTION OF ANNUAL TOURISM CAMPAIGN IN THE BENELUX REGION 2021

Resumption of Annual Tourism Campaign in the BENELUX Region. A meeting was held with Beyond Borders in Herentals, Flanders, Belgium on 07 September 2021. The company sells tours to Uganda as its most popular tourist destination in Africa. The 18-day tour package promoted by the company consists of a visit of Sipi Falls, Mt. Elgon, Coffee tour, Kidepo Valley National Park, Karamojong community, Murchison Falls National Park, Fort Portal, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kisoro, Virunga Volcanoes, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Golden Monkey Trekking, Lake Bunyonyi and Mabamba Swamp. Farewell Luncheon for the Apostolic Nuncio to Belgium and Luxembourg, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, His Grace Archbishop Augustine Kasujja held at the Official Residence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to the BENELUX region and the European Union, Amb. Mirjam Blaak Sow on 11 August 2021. The Nuncio was accompanied by Monsignor Rivet. His Grace Archbishop Augustine Kasujja is the first African to have served as the Papal Nuncio in Belgium and is a Ugandan National accredited to Belgium and Luxembourg for more than four years as his last posting. Meeting at Mondo del Caffe, Luxembourg. The Embassy coordinated a B2B meeting between Mondo del Caffe and Asante mama on 27 July 2021. Asante mama will supply herbal teas and cocoa to the Luxembourg company. A negotiation to have Uganda coffee roasted and packed at the premises was also concluded.
